Spiderman, Superman, and Moses

Q: What do Spiderman, Superman, and Moses have in common?
A: They were all taken for granted.

As much as I am anti-religious, I went to a Catholic school -- probably contributed to my anti-religism. My point is: I have read a few Bible stories in my days and in my not-so-humble opinion, the Bible is full of ridiculous stories. And I am not referring to the part where Jesus came back to life.

For example, there was this story about this man having two sons, and the younger one didn't want to succeed the family business (farming or something to that effect), so he ran off to what he perceived as better opportunities. The older son, however, stuck around. The younger son either couldn't make it or changed his mind and came home. And the father welcomed him and loved him just the same if not more than the first son who stuck around and he got all these perks. Okay, so I paraphrased a little bit. I read that story over 20 years ago, give me a break. But, someone please tell me what is the moral of this story? If I was the older son I'll fill gypped. Was there no reward/ appreciation for him sticking around? Or is that just how family is supposed to be.

And I also remembered the story of Moses, and I am not talking about the part where he split apart the sea. From what I remembered, he saved his people and brought them out of Eygpt, but the part I remembered the most was: every time they ran into any hardship/set back, the people started griping to Moses. "Why did you take us out?" "Now we are going to die." blah blah blah. Oh. My. God. If I was Moses, I'd just tell these ungrateful bastard to just go back. Holy cow. He might have signed up for the saving mission, but did he sign up to put up with all the complaints?

Same thing with Spiderman and Superman, at some point in time, both of them questioned about their super-heroism and people moaned and bitched when they fail to show up. First of all, just because they have the power doesn't mean they are obligated to dedicate every minute of their lives to crime-fighting. Secondly, even if they are, they can only be at one place at any given point (yeah, God forbid, their super power was not powerful enough for them to be omnipotent, kinda like God). Last but not the least, God forbid they needed to keep a day job to actually get a paycheck to pay rent and buy food and not look like a bum to everybody else!

Of everyone, only Batman doesn't have an excuse. He's independently wealthy.

New Year Resolution

So the mother-in-law and the husband's nephew were over for the holidays. It wasn't too stressful or as bad as the family unions that Hollywood likes to portray, but it certainly did not feel very holiday-ish. I felt that I can use a do-over Christmas. The saving grace is we didn't have to travel anywhere for Thanksgiving or Christmas. 2011 - the year both my grandparents passed away.

So people at work have been asking me whether I have made any new year resolution. What? Why? Who are we kidding, by now I'm well aware that I will not be able to stick to any of my own resolution. Hahaha. If anything, I would like to blog on a more regular basis -- like daily -- and I just made my first entry on the 6th....technically the morning of the 7th... speaking of new year's resolution. Last year I made a similar resolution, I think I got to January 15th... or maybe it was 16th... 17th? What a joke.

Today has not been a good day. I couldn't find my cell phone this morning and since I still have my work phone with me, I just left for work. I came home to a message from my doctor's office, they want me to make a follow-up appointment for my physical I had a week ago. Mind you they said if everything's normal, I will most likely not hear from them. So here I am, freaking out about what is wrong and how bad is it. Why do doctor offices have to do that? :(
