MILF, Cougar, and Female Empowerment

Note: If you don't know what MILF stand for or what cougar refers to other than the animal, read no further.

When we were talking about MILF and Cougar, hubby thinks that they are derogatory terms for women. Noooooo, I don't think so at all!! I think it's about female empowerment and cast females in good lights (see also my entry on the Nike commercial during the 2000 olympics). Note that, at least according to Hollywood stereotype (where else do we get our information from anyway), a MILF/Cougar is not just any woman in her forties. When you think of a MILF and/or cougar, you think of an attractive, confident women, in their forties, usually with decent social standing. If anything, that's what a woman should aspire to be -- attractive and highly desirable at an age that used to be considered as way over the hill. If anything, this is equality between the two genders -- not just men can go for girls who are barely legal, women can too. And just because you still have what it takes to attract someone 20 years younger doesn't mean you have to. There's nothing wrong with meeting the requirements to becoming a MILF or a cougar. =)
